Description
CAPPADOCIA, Caesarea-Eusebia. Antoninus Pius. AD 138-161. Æ (22.5mm, 9.30 g, 12h). Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right; c/m: LXVI / Mount Argaeus with conical top; date uncertain. Cf. RPC IV.4 10689 (Marcus Aurelius or Lucius Verus). For c/m: Howgego 741. Red-brown surfaces, cleaning scratches. Near Fine. Rare legionary countermark.

The original Legio XIV Gallica was disbanded after surrendering during the Batavian rebellion in AD 70. Vespasian created a new legion, Legio XIV Flavia Firma from the remnants. This new legion was stationed to guard the Euphrate’s border.
